The Essential Story

Our Credit Union was originally chartered in 1972 by a small group of Dow Chemical employees. They were dedicated to building a financial institution that would provide outstanding financial services...at the lowest possible cost.

When you bring your money home to Essential, you know it's safe and sound. With more than 46,000 members and $378 million in assets, Essential is in sound financial condition, even as we expand our locations to serve our growing membership. Members enjoy added peace of mind knowing their savings are federally insured through the National Credit Union Administration.

Essential is a community chartered Credit Union. Our field of membership includes the nine parishes of the Greater Baton Rouge Community! Now, anyone who lives, works, worships or attends school in the following parishes may join Essential Credit Union: East Baton Rouge, West Baton Rouge, East Feliciana, West Feliciana, Ascension, Livingston, Iberville, Pointe Coupee, and St. Helena.
